Crush It!

I just finished reading Gary Vaynerchuk's new book Crush It! Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion. If you are planning on making any money at all on the internet, this book is a must read! Gary goes into detail about building your personal brand, how to monetize from every situation, and be successful doing what you love, among many other things. Not only does this book explain in detail how to get the most out of the social networks that you probably already use, it gives you a wealth of resources that you probably don't know about. Crush It! will get you PUMPED about making a living doing what you love. If you get the audio-book, you'll hear Gary go off the script and give you more information than is already in the book, in his own pumped-up, hyper style. You could spend years trying to find on the internet all of the information that you will get from this book, and it's from a reliable source. This book is definitely worth the $15.

Can A Person Survive on PTC alone?

There has been one big question looming out there among the paid-to-clickers, and that's: Can I make a living on PTC sites? I've decided to take the challenge and crunch some numbers today to find out if it is really worth spending time on the PTC sites. Now we all know that each PTC site is unique in it's own way, some give you more ads, some less; most allow you to rent referrals, some only allow direct referrals. In fact, it seems that more of them are popping up every day. We are all familiar with NeoBux, PalmBux, and BuxXL; but then you see sites like FineBux, TinaBux, hell let's throw an AndyBux in there while we're at it! PTC sites must be profitable for the people that own them, or they wouldn't be interested in opening more.

Find 4 other sites that pay like this and and we'd be in business ($1222.50 per month).

Let's use BuxXL for our guinea pig today. With the standard (free) account, we earn $.01 per ad that we click. I'm not sure about rented referrals but I think we get $.005 per referral click. Let's say that we manage to get 200 rented referrals that ACTUALLY click, that's the tricky part, getting genuine refs. 200 referrals at $.005 per click with 4 ads per day, 200 X .005 X 4 = $4 per day (plus $.04 for our clicks). $4.04 per day equals $121.20 per month. Nice, but not nearly livable (unless you live on the prairie with no electricity, pump your own water, and farm your own food.) You'd need to get at least this much with 11 sites just to make the equivalent of a minimum wage job, and that doesn't include the costs for buying and recycling these referrals. It's time to upgrade.

Let's buy the Large (XL) upgrade for $99 that's good for one year. We now earn $.015 per click for us, $.01 per ref click, and we get some discounts on buying and recycling referrals, plus we can now have up to 800 direct refs, but I'm no salesman and wouldn't count on that, and we get more ads. If we now click 10 ads per day (that's $.15 already) and our refs are still clicking 4 a day at $.01 per click, 200 X .01 X 4 + .15 = $8.15 per day, that's $244.50 per month. Find 4 other sites that pay like this and and we'd be in business ($1222.50 per month).

What we didn't factor in are the initial costs to get there. With the upgraded account we are already $99 in the hole. It will cost $.60 to rent each referral, so that's $120 initial investment just for our referrals. If we assume that 75% of the referrals are lemons (don't click) when we first buy them, it will cost $.075 per recycle per referral, that's at least $15 for recycling on our 200 referrals. So we now have an initial cost at this point, 99 + 120 + 15 = $234 minimum to get where where we want to be. Of course this can be paid off in just one month if I did my math correctly, not considering that there may be the potential to rent more referrals or get some direct ones.

Now I'm expecting a math wiz or experienced PTC'er to read this and find a bunch of problems with my logic, I welcome it. Please feel free to evaluate my findings here and work the numbers yourself to find out if this is all accurate. In my opinion, I believe that if a person get's far enough into their PTC sites and reinvests all of their earnings, one could potantially make a living maintaining 5 to 10 well-paying sites. But it will take a while to get there, years at least. You could always take the fast track and fork over the initial investment and jump right into the game, but I'm not quite comfortable enough to do that. Considering how many sites been scams in the past, be careful where you put your money.

Why This Is A Paradox

A funny thing occured to me the other day. I was thinking to myself: What is the best kind of site to make? As if that isn't a million dollar question, literally. There are a LOT of people out there that want to know how to make money on the internet. There are some that are making a successful living on the internet, an example of one such site is Money4Momz. This is proof that there are always enough people looking for extra online income to support a good, resourceful website that is directed at online earning.

So, I made a website about making money online, in an attempt to make money online.

The thing that puzzles me is the fact that I made this blog to document my efforts in my attempt to find out if there is really any earning potential on the internet. In a sense, I am using this site as my testing grounds. So, I made a website about making money online, in an attempt to make money online. Confused? Me too. But my links are genuine, I do all of my PTC sites every day and when I need some extra change I do some jobs on MTurk or Microworkers. In fact, this blog really just started out as a banner farm, a page with a bunch of links in the hopes that a few people would click some of them, (which didn't work, by the way). But it didn't take me long to figure out that content is key. Nobody wants to visit a site that doesn't have anything useful on it. Quickly, I realized that if I want people to look at my site, I have to make an effort to GET them here and KEEP them here. (By them I mean YOU!)

But a money making site about making money, could it work? That's like making a formula to make a formula, in fact we're getting back to the chicken or the egg question here. But I digress, the point is: I need to do something that's interesting. Maybe this is it, but I'm not sure. I think for now I'll just let it do it's own thing and see how it evolves.
